Why Michigan?
Okay, we know what you are thinking “Why would I go to Michigan to record and not (fill in the blank with Nashville, NY, LA, etc)?”.
Let’s look at the real issue. If you are going to record, you are conscious of finished product quality and the budget to get you there. There are other items to consider but these are out front.
> Quality
We are a metropolitan area of 5.2 million people. (Yes, you read that correctly.) We are the birthplace, home, muse, or launching pad of (in no particular order); Motown, Iggy Pop, Alice Cooper, Bob Seger, John Lee Hooker, Elvin Jones, White Stripes, MC5, Romantics, Earl Klugh, Sponge, Eminem, Easy Action, Anita Baker, Josh Gracin, the Von Bondies, Black Dahlia Murder, Kid Rock, Robert Bradley’s Blackwater Surprise, Ted Nugent, Cece and Bebe Winans, Don Was, DC Drive, Kenny Burrell, Aretha Franklin, George Clinton, Glen Frey, Mitch Ryder, Cactus, Marshall Crenshaw (that’s two guys named Marshall that have hit from here!), Big Chief, and the Verve Pipe. Whew!! If you don’t think you can find a quality studio, producer, engineer or musician we invite you to s-l-o-w-l-y re-read the previous list.
> Budget
The budget for a recording includes not only studio time and musicians (which are very fairly priced in our city) but also housing, food, parking, etc. Our hotels are offering deals right now in a big way. Most have highspeed and free parking. There are so many great and reasonably priced restaurants to choose from that you will never have to repeat and it’s pretty easy to find a bar around here with $3 beers. Who doesn’t like that?
> Other Stuff
How about an idea to make you money while you are in the area? Play some gigs. Our music scene is thriving with venues for any genre. There are at least three college towns within three hours that have a minimum of 25,000 students. Also, Toronto, Chicago, Grand Rapids, Columbus, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Toledo, and Cleveland are within 5 hours of Detroit. Why not plan a mini tour?
In addition, we have pro and college sports, 4 casinos, and cool people that love music.
