What a beautiful set of mics for drum overheads or for an application that demands stereo tracks. This pair features nickel capsules and they sound fantastic.

AKG D12 - Vintage
Introduced in 1953, the AKG D12 was the world's first dynamic cardioid mic with a "unidirectional" design intended to reduce the pick up of extraneous sound and the production of feedback. Excellent kick drum mic. Two available.

Electro Voice PL20 - Vintage
Large diaphragm dynamic microphone from the 70's and made in Michigan. Known as a broadcasting and vocal mic we think you may recognize that 70Υs kick drum sound if you give this a try. Great SM58 alternative for the singer that likes to get friendly with the microphone. Same mic as the RE 20.
$25/day or $100/week
Neumann TLM 170
The TLM 170 is a medium diaphragm condenser microphone with multiple polar patterns. Its sound is very transparent. Along with a balanced, transformerless output stage it features extremely low self-noise and an impressive dynamic range. Five directional characteristics are selectable by means of a rotary switch. In the sixth position, marked "R", the directional patterns can be controlled remotely with the N 248 power supply. It also boasts a 10 dB attenuation switch for extremely high sound pressure levels, and a high-pass filter to suppress structure born noise.

Neumann U 87 D Vintage (Purple badge)
The U 87 is probably the best known and most widely used Neumann studio microphone. It is equipped with a large dual-diaphragm capsule and three directional patterns: omnidirectional, cardioid and figure-8. Really fine open sound with plenty of top end. Classic vocal mic.

RCA BK5 - Vintage
True classic ribbon microphone. Try it on vocals, guitar, drum overheads, making Julienne fries (alright maybe not fries) but it is a workhorse in the studio. Used often in applications like flute and violin. Ribbon mics are the new "it" idea and these can help you see why. Two available.
$50/day or $200/week
Royer R121
The standard for modern ribbon microphones. This is a favorite for recording electric guitar or brass but also has applications with piano, drums or even the right vocal. As used by Mark Knopfler, Brian Setzer, Kings X.

Sennheiser MD 441 Vintage
Dynamic mic used for vocals and about any instrument. On the vocals side it has a nice, tight vibe and was the mic of choice for Stevie Nicks through the years. On the drums side it can be used all over but is known as a go-to mic for the bottom of a snare. Also, great for horns as heard on Bob Mintzers sax in the Yellowjackets.
$40/day or $160/week
Sennheiser Shotgun
We know, "A shotgun mic?". You may be surprised. Try it as a distant drum overhead or across the room from a singer. There are rumors that Steven Tyler has used these on vocals from 6 feet away with the idea of capturing more of the chest in a performance instead of just the mouth and nose. Try something different.

Shure Beta 52
Dynamic kick drum mic. Its a workhorse.
$10/day or $40/week

$25/day or $100/week
Shure SM7
Dynamic vocal microphone. We always think of this as the "Jeff Tweedy" mic since you see so many pictures of it with him in the studio. Very natural sound.

Tube condenser mic that uses their version of the KK47 capsule found in the U47. It has that big, open and classic tube microphone sound that lends itself vocals.
Click here for a great review of this from Mix magazine in June of 1999. Start with this one if you want a huge vocal track. Comes with power supply and shock mount.
